How to fix: Google Chrome update blocked by administrator

  1. Save the following instructions and close all instances of Chrome.
  2. Press the Windows key + R, type regedit.exe and press Enter.
  3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesGoogle
  4. Double-click on UpdateDefault and/or DefaultUpdate.
  5. Change the data type 0 to 1.
  6. If you see a key named “DisableAutoUpdateChecksCheckboxValue”, right click, and click “Modify”
  7. Change the Value Data number from 0 to 1
  8. If you have any of the keys below Right click, and Modify the values by changing the 0’s to 1’s (see image below):

  9. Exit the registry editor and launch Chrome.
  10. Click on the three dots in the top right corner, and hover over the Help option. Then proceed to click ”About Google Chrome” to start the update process.
