- Open Command Prompt.
- Make sure to run it as an Administrator.
- In the box you’ll type: net user
- Hit Enter.
- This should list the users on the computer.
- Identify the user you wish to change the password for, if it’s an Admin account then it will display under Administrator.
- Now you’ll type the same thing with the account name and a star. When you do this, make sure to type the name exactly how the CMD window displays that account name. If our account name was Matthew, this would be an example: net user Matthew *
- Hit Enter.
- Next you’ll see “Type a password for this user:”
Note, when you type this in you won’t see any characters on the screen, but it is typing. - Once you’ve finished typing the password you’ll hit “Enter” again and it will ask you to retype the password to confirm it.
- Type it once more and it should say the password has been saved.
