Changing the Mouse Speed in Windows XP, 98 and Earlier

Updating the mouse speed settings can slow down or speed up the rate of speed at which your mouse moves across the screen. So if you feel like your cursor jumps across the screen too fast or you want to increase the speed for PC gaming purposes, etc., follow these instructions:

  1. Select the “Windows key” and type “Control Panel“.
  2. Double click the Mouse icon.
  3. Under Mouse Properties select the “Pointer Options” tab.
    Tip: If you’re using an earlier version of Microsoft Windows such as Windows 98, open the “Motion” tab
  4. Under the Motion section, slide the bar left or right to get your preferred pointer speed.
  5. Select “Apply“, then OK.
