IMAP and POP are two methods to access email. IMAP is the recommended method when you need to check your emails from several different devices, such as a phone, laptop, and tablet.
When you add your email account to your email app, it will usually attempt to set it up with IMAP access, without any input from you.
If the email app has difficulty adding your email account, it’s usually because the email account is setup for POP access. So use whichever server setting’s are applicable to your email provider.
Make sure to verify your email and password are working by logging in online through the Webmail.
The difference between IMAP and POP accounts:
POP: A pop account is a downloaded copy of what exists in the email.
Which means, any changes you make like deleting an email will only be deleted off the program you’re using.
*This can be why you receive an error saying your inbox is too full, despite deleting several emails
IMAP: An IMAP account is saved on a cloud and syncs a live version of your mailbox just as you were to view it online.
This means deleting or changing anything in the program will reflect the same changes online on your email.
*So be careful deleting emails you may possibly still need, or log in to the email online through the webmail if you’re trying to make space in your email.
