Possible Causes: low power source, clogged ink nozzles or dirty scanner glass.
All printer/scanners are different but all should have similar steps.
FIRST OPTION:
Verify power is working correctly by turning it off, unplugging power, plugging directly in wall outlet and power the printer back on.
- Raise the paper outlet tray. Now load the printer by placing a clean, even stack of paper into the input tray. Slide the paper width guides inward until they stop at the edge of the paper. If the paper is bending then you’ve pushed them too far.
- Lower the paper outlet tray back down.
- Raise the lid and place the document you’re trying to scan *print side down* on the right front corner. Align the page to the engraved guides on the edge of the glass.
- On the printers control panel (small screen on the front) look for two icons that will say “Scan” and “Copy”. If you’re having troubles scanning you’ll tap the “Scan” icon, then Computer.
- Then follow the steps to select your document type. For this to work, you’ll need to make sure the printer is connected to the computer by a USB cable or through your WiFi.
If you’re having issues copying you’ll tap the “Copy” icon, then choose color or black depending on what you’d like to print. Examine the scanned or copied document. If the document appears to be accurate, there’s no need to continue troubleshooting.
SECOND OPTION:
If you’re still having issues there may be a hardware problem. Next we’ll try printing a print quality report to determine that.
- On the front Printer Control Panel screen touch the right arrow, then touch “Setup”.
- Once the setup menu opens, press the down arrow, press “Reports”.
- Then touch “Print quality report”.
- Examine the quality report that’s printed. If the quality is satisfactory, there is no need to continue. If the scan or copy is not satisfactory, continue to the next step.
A dirty or damaged screen can cause issues in your print quality. Here’s how to clean the scanner glass and scanner backing:
Before starting you’ll need the following materials:
- A clean, lint-free cloth
- A mild glass cleaner
Tip: Make sure not to use cleaners that contain abrasives, acetone, benzene or carbon tetrachloride. These substances can damage the printer. Avoid using isopropyl, alcohol or rubbing alcohol because these can leave streaks on the printer glass.
- Press the power button to shut down the printer.
- Turn to the back of the printer and disconnect the power cord.
- Going back to the front of the printer and lift the scanner lid.
- Spray a clean lint-free cloth with a mild glass cleaner. Do not spray cleaner directly on the scanner glass as this can ruin the printer.
- Thoroughly clean the scanner glass with the damp cloth.
- Dry the scanner glass with a dry lint-free cloth to prevent spotting.
- Do the same thing with the white scanner backing on the lid.
Now close the scanner lid and return to the back of the printer. Plug the power cord back in and return to the front once more. Power the printer back on by pressing the power button. Scan or copy the document again. If the scanner copy is successful there is no need to continue.
If you’re still having issues after going through those steps, your printer most likely needs to be serviced by someone in person.
